Retailers and manufacturers divided on assortment priorities

While we understand retailers and manufacturers have different priorities when evaluating assortments, recent changes in shopper behavior and the requisite speed of response has divided the retail community into two groups: those who continue using a traditional category management approach, and those who view true collaboration as the better path to growth.

Some of the key findings from the survey include:

  • Lead times for both major and minor assortment reviews are getting shorter while demand for more granularity is increasing
  • Demands from internal teams for analysis is growing, reducing time available to serve retail partners
  • Collaboration levels differ significantly by geography with two clear groups emerging
